We preserve natural areas to Live Better

At Grupo Arcor we believe that efforts to mitigate climate change and reverse the loss of biodiversity are necessary and urgent. We understand that food production, on which all people depend, requires balanced and healthy ecosystems. For this reason, we assume the commitment to act against climate change and to promote a balance between our productive activities and the natural environment.

Through our Biodiversity Strategy we promote actions to protect and regenerate the landscapes in which we operate, favoring a positive interaction between production and ecosystems. Biodiversity plays a fundamental role in climate regulation, soil fertility, the water cycle and the capacity of forests to capture and store carbon, thus contributing to mitigating global warming.

For this reason, we manage more than 28 thousand hectares that constitute true refuges of biodiversity. These spaces stand out:

Natural Forest “Living Better”

It is located within the Las Yungas ecoregion, in the province of Tucumán, where “La Providencia”, our sugar production mill, is located.

It is made up of 4,000 hectares of native forest, mountains and high mountains. Its conservation plays a key role as an interconnected ecological corridor, which allows fauna and flora to have continuous spaces free of urban interference such as routes or cities. This provides them with the necessary conditions to develop in their natural environment.

Among the animals that inhabit the area, the following stand out: the greater ferret, the ocelot, the collared peccary, the brown corzuela and the mountain fox, which reflects our way of producing in harmony with nature.

At the same time, within the framework of the Forest Plan, we carry out environmental regeneration and reforestation tasks, reaching a total of 71,500 specimens, including eucalyptus, cedars, lapachos and tipas, among others, thus enriching the forest.

Paper Missionary Natural and Cultural Reserve

Located within the Yabotí Biosphere Reserve, it extends over more than 10,000 hectares, which are part of the natural heritage of Papel Misionero, made up of a total of 16,000 natural hectares.

It is one of the few continuous forests in the Alto Paraná Atlantic Forest ecoregion, with high biodiversity indices, presence of endangered species and unique ecosystems.

The area is home to 17 species of threatened birds, including the jacutinga, chestnut dancer, cinnamon-faced woodpecker and black-breasted batara, as well as historical records of the harpy eagle. Its importance was recognized as a Key Biodiversity Area (KBA) and an Important Bird Area (IBA).

In addition, on both properties we monitor the fauna by installing cameras that are activated by infrared sensors. These devices allow us to survey mammals to confirm the presence of species and obtain density estimates. The presence of certain mammals is a bioindicator that provides information about the health of an ecosystem, and thus take effective measures for its conservation.

In our company we understand that preserving biodiversity is taking care of the future of the next generations. The loss of species and ecosystems aggravates climate change and puts our common future at risk. Therefore, we take on the challenge of producing in balance with nature, promoting models that preserve the resources that make life on the planet possible.
